Office/Chill Out Room: A Fusion of Productivity and Relaxation

project details

Our client approached us seeking a dual-purpose space—a home office where he could work efficiently and a chill-out room for family enjoyment. In the design phase, it became apparent that additional storage was essential. However, the client was adamant about maintaining the clean and open aesthetic of the room, prompting a creative solution.

During the design process, we brainstormed a solution that would integrate additional storage seamlessly. Rather than allocating a portion of the room for storage, we opted to extend the room's depth slightly. This allowed us to incorporate a partition wall with a hidden door, leading to a concealed storage area at the rear. The result was a space that retained its open design while offering discreet storage.

The construction phase unfolded over approximately five weeks, focusing on the meticulous creation of the hidden storage area. During this process, we identified that the garden had access to a parking area. Leveraging this discovery, we installed a secure door, providing additional access to the parking space—a thoughtful addition that enhanced functionality.

Architecturally, the room featured a slight overhang on the roof with concaved edges, adding a touch of sophistication. A large three-panel bi-fold door was incorporated, seamlessly connecting the interior to the timber decking and the garden beyond. The exterior was finished in British cedar, while the interior boasted hardwood flooring throughout, marrying elegance with durability.

The client's testimonial reflects the success of this project. The dual-purpose room not only met but surpassed the client's expectations. The innovative storage solution, architectural finesse, and strategic access to the parking area showcase our commitment to both form and function. The client now enjoys a versatile space—a harmonious blend of productivity for work and relaxation for family moments.
