Our client approached us with a vision of creating an exterior kitchen area to launch her new catering business. During the design process, she articulated the need for a fully fitted kitchen that adhered to Food Agency standards. Crucially, the design needed to incorporate toilet facilities, strategically separated from the main cooking and food preparation area.
Navigating the design process, we meticulously crafted plans for a fully functional catering kitchen. Our client's specific requirements included toilets and washing facilities meeting Food Agency standards, positioned separately from the cooking area. We embraced an L-shaped layout, cleverly situating the toilet facilities away from the main cooking space and creating additional storage accessible from the exterior. This thoughtful design ensured compliance with regulations while optimising space usage.
The construction phase spanned approximately six weeks, during which we brought the catering kitchen to life. The L-shaped configuration allowed for the discreet inclusion of toilet facilities and extra storage space. Large skylights were strategically added to flood the kitchen with natural light, complemented by UPVC doors and windows. Eschewing bi-fold doors, we opted for a design that accommodated the client's need for a closed cooking environment. The high-end kitchen featured built-in ovens, extractions, and a spacious island, catering to the client's food preparation needs.
The room's exterior was adorned with cedar cladding, boasting a 500mm overhang for architectural finesse. To enhance safety during year-round use, we opted for composite decking around the room instead of traditional wooden decking. This decision, considering the constant movement of products in and out of the space, reflects our commitment to both aesthetics and practicality.
